Women’s Day of Action: Rise up for Pay Equity: Saturday 20th September!
Event Description

This day is a bold and visible statement in the fight for pay equity, 132 years and one
day after women secured the right to vote in Aotearoa, we are gathering again in
strength and solidarity.
The Government gutted pay equity legislation, directly impacting over 300,000
workers in women dominated work and cancelling claims for 182,000+ people. They
cancelled claims that were set to boost services that make life possible – like schools,
libraries, hospitals, aged care facilities, disability support and many more.
In the face of those attacks, people in Aotearoa have stood strong for pay equity. We’ve
shown we wholeheartedly value the working people who give blood, sweat, and skill to
care-oriented mahi every day.
No Government can take down pay equity. We have won it before, and we can win it
again. Now’s the time to keep the pressure on. This day of action is more than protest.
It is a celebration of the women who nurture, lead, and resist. It is a moment to honour
the suffrage legacy and to amplify our collective power to shape the future. It is an
opportunity for people who love and support women – to show their solidarity.
A range of actions all over the country are being planned. Whether you march in
Auckland, gather in Porirua or Christchurch, raise your voice in Wellington, have a
‘crafternoon’ in Invercargill or show support online – you are part of this movement.
These events warmly welcome all people- whānau, communities, and individuals of
every gender, background, and identity – to stand together for pay equity and justice.
We are sending a clear message: pay equity is not optional. Our livelihoods should
never be on the political chopping block.
