An open letter to the people of Aotearoa New Zealand
We have spent the better part of 15 years fighting for truth and justice for our men and for the right of every working person in Aotearoa New Zealand to come home safe from work…We have been able to take on this fight because we have had the support of tens of thousands of people who believe in doing the right thing.
To all of you who have had our back over these years. Thank you.
This fight is not over. We are still pushing for justice for our men, and the rights of people to stay safe at work are still under attack. In the time since our men were killed at Pike River, hundreds of men and women have died at work in Aotearoa New Zealand.
That’s a disgrace.
What’s worse is right now the Government is chipping away at health and safety laws in ways that increasingly put profit ahead of people’s safety.
We know that leads to injury and death and pain it creates for families of people killed at work. That’s why over the coming months we will be doing everything we can to keep the rights we have to stay safe and push for them to be strengthened.
We can’t do this alone. Which is why we are asking you to stand with us by signing and sharing this open letter so we can stand together to make the Government keep people safe and hold it to account if it doesn’t.
